Not many alternative bands have a lead singer whose past musical escapades include a solo rap career, but the soulful alt-rock group SomeKindaWonderful are all the better for it.
Throughout the past few months SomeKindaWonderful has been touring the US for their Burn It Up Tour, and last week, the band made their final stop in the tour, playing at the Troubadour in Hollywood.
While most of the band members are from Cleveland, Ohio, it was a hometown show for lead singer Jordy Towers, who lives in Los Angeles.
Band members Ben Schigel, Justin Andres and Towers left it all on stage and managed to get the entire venue moving.
The band started out strong, straying from the setlist slightly by starting out with “Police” off their self-titled debut track. This choice led to a dynamic start to their performance that carried on throughout their entire show.
Towers joked on stage and discussed the inspiration and meaning of some songs, while also thanking his band for sticking through the tour.
The band’s set lasted nearly an hour, and in that short amount of time they managed to perform the majority of their debut album.
Openers for the show included U.S Royalty, a high energy Indie band and Marc Scibilia, a folksy solo act. Both were very good and helped lead into SomeKindaWonderful's energetic set.
Tower's looked like he was having a lot of fun on stage dancing around and putting his bandmates in the spotlight.
All in all, last Wednesday's show was a whirlwind of fun. I'm happy to say all three bands did a great job on stage.
