As always for F&F Open Mic we asked the band five of our favorite questions and we let them tell their own story! Check out the questions below. For the best Open Mic experience make sure you listen to their tracks while reading.
1) What story are you trying to tell as a band?
The Pressure Kids: It’s all about being a human being. It’s having two eyes and a heartbeat, it’s the celebration and the pain and the fighting and hope and fear and anxiety and blood gush that comes with being on planet earth. It’s winning and losing. You’re told when you’re two years old that you can do anything, you can be anybody and go anywhere. It’s liberating, but it’s also a hell of a lot of pressure. I think our sound comes from somewhere in between that sweet pressure, right in that sweet spot, where you realize you’re in way over your head and you celebrate.
2) Who, if anyone, has been your biggest supporter/ mentor?
The Pressure Kids: We were charmed to be able to navigate the murky waters of the Nashville rock scene with friends of ours that were just as lost and hopeful as we were. There are a handful of bands we hit the ground running with that have been an unbelievable support system, to be able to play these shows next to these people that we adore as friends and are musically challenged by has been supportive and inspiring beyond measure.
3) Why did you decide to start a band together?
The Pressure Kids: We lived across the hall from each other in our freshman dorm. There were a lot of sounds going on those first couple weeks, everyone kept their doors open. Things fell into place really quickly musically, there was this sonic chemistry that sparked immediately. We knew we had stumbled upon something that was worth pursuing. It was kinda undeniable.
4) How do you plan to grow your popularity?
The Pressure Kids: We just put out our first little project called Tiger. The immediate plan is to keep pushing our little tiger cub as far out of Nashville as we can, play shows in sister cities and start to build regional bases. Each time a band puts out an artifact like an EP or record or a video it helps to spread fingers out just a little further, brings lungs and heartbeats out shows. We’re all pretty hungry to go into 2016 with a constant output of new and reworked material.
5) if you could have a billboard anywhere on the planet where would it be and what would it say?
The Pressure Kids: Trump’s living room. “Stop being an ass, forgive yourself, hug your friends, follow us on Instagram”
