Catch Me Dancing My Blues Away with Capital Cities
One, two, three… Green time. Green because that was the color that blinded us all when Capital Cities got on stage at LA’s Fonda Theater on November 20th.
Not only did Capital Cities captivate us with the use of lighting but with their vocals, mashups, and instrumental genius.
Let’s begin with Ryan and Sebu’s amazingly in-sync vocals. I mean… really… put a blindfold on me and I could not tell which one is which… until of course they want us to know the difference. It is clear that Ryan and Sebu not only have synced vocals but their onstage chemistry is contagiously fun. Their displayed onstage friendship makes them very personable and loveable, so much so that know all I want to do is be their best friend.
While I fell in love more and more with Ryan and Sebu, I found a new love for Spencer- who added so much soul using the trumpet. Spencer did not have to be spotlighted to get attention; he was an equally important presence as Ryan and Sebu. Spencer made it a point to move around the stage allowing the audience to the left and right catch a glimpse of him and his killer dance moves. Seriously, at some point I caught myself trying to recreate his moves plenty of times. I could dedicate an entire blog post to Spencer’s amazing trumpet playing but it would not do him justice. So sorry, you are just going to have to catch him at a concert.
Capital Cities does a great job at bringing us a very distinct programming and instrumental mix of tunes, listening live heightened their genius. There wasn’t a single moment throughout the entire show where I thought they did not perform- in fact they not only played brilliantly but made me fall in love with them more with their humor and personality. They made us dance with them and spin (to the girl I hit in one of my very clumsy attempts to be as graceful as possible with my spin, I am sorry… again), a perfect way to connect with us.
Are they coming to a concert near you? Go. Watch them, it is worth everything to hear the two guys and watch charisma seep through the microphone (forgot to mention, Ryan’s moves… ladies you’ll want to watch), and let’s not forget the rest of the band who makes it all happen.
To Capital Cities, thanks for the gifts you brought back… personally I really wanted the xbox game.
